Xam'd: Lost Memories(Bōnen no Zamdou)

Genre: Mecha, Fantasy, Shounen

Plot

The story revolves around a boy named Akiyuki Takehara and how an accident changes him into a creature called Xam'd. A mysterious girl named Nakiami saves him and Akiyuki must stay with Nakiami on the postal ship called “Zanbani”. He is then on a quest to understand the connection between himself and the Xam’d. There is a constant battle between the Northern Government and the Southern Continent Free Zone. Sentan Island, Akiyuki’s homeland is also targeted. The plot turns out to be unclear and ambiguous. In the middle of the story, I wondered where the story was leading.

The only stronghold in this anime is the characters. The characters are interesting and mature, unlike many other anime shows. In spite of the weak storyline, Nakiami, according to me, is the best female character I’ve encountered in any anime. She is independent, caring, and mostly impassive. The relationship between the Akiyuki and his friends, Haru and Furuichi is depicted poignantly. The animation is excellent and the ending theme is melodious. You can watch it for Nakiami.

An example of the beautiful animation
